Philip Turvil

Philip Turvil MI Hort, Project Manager

I work with our volunteer co-ordinators to recruit, train and support Master Gardeners and promote and expand the programme nationally. I’m horticultural advisor for several publications and radio, including BBC, London 2012, Grow Your Own and Horticulture Week, becoming a finalist for ‘Journalist of the Year 2011′ at the Garden Media Guild Awards. I love growing – starting age six, training in horticulture and management at Reading and Bath Universities, followed by practical and education roles with the ‘Food For Life Partnership‘ and at botanic, heritage and zoological gardens.

Kate Newman

Kate Newman

Kate Newman, Warwickshire Volunteer Co-ordinator

I work with Master Gardeners in Warwickshire, recruiting, training and supporting them. I have previously worked promoting composting and with community volunteers at a time bank in Gloucestershire. When I first left home, I fought for my first vegetable patch with some persistent Japanese knotweed. I continue to grow vegetables in my back garden, assisted by three very enthusiastic children.

Susan Holtom, Islington Volunteer Co-ordinator

I recruit, train and support Master Gardeners in Islington and neighbouring boroughs. I’m gradually turning over my back garden to growing veg, with runner beans, broad beans, and tomatoes all clamouring for space. Hailing from Haringey in north London, I’ve helped set up a residents’ group with gardening events and I’m volunteering with Haringey Timebank to create an accessible organic garden at a local day centre.

Gabbie Joyce

Gabbie Joyce, Norfolk Volunteer Co-ordinator

I recruit, train and support Master Gardeners in Norfolk. I love working with people that have such great passion for helping others discover their food-growing skills. My love of food growing started a few years ago, when I moved to Norfolk and took on a large back garden, complete with greenhouse. For me, the journey from seed to plate is addictive.

Fiona Law

Fiona Law

Fiona Law, South London Volunteer Co-ordinator

I recruit, train and support Master Gardeners in South London. I became a Master Gardener in June at the first South London foundation course and have enjoyed growing on my small allotment for over twelve years. I want to share my experience and the benefits of growing fruit and veg, and develop links for future food sustainability. I’ve worked in community and adult education as a teacher and a trainer and I’m also a qualified garden designer.

Rick Aron

Rick Aron, Lincolnshire Volunteer Co-ordinator

I recruit, mentor and coordinate the Lincolnshire Master Gardeners. I have previously coordinated volunteers for a furniture re-use charity. I have grown herbs and vegetables on and off throughout my life, however, a few years ago I turned half our lawn into a vegetable patch, gave a quarter over to a few chickens leaving a slither of lawn left for our daughter to play on. Priorities!.
